Sunday AM: Pavers, pavers paver? We were not kidding...

Well Sunday morning came much quicker than expected. Especially after the grueling work done by volunteers on Saturday.

Bright sunshine dominated that day with tempuratures climbing into the upper 80's to low 90's.

Our goal was simple. Move 3600 Square Feet of concrete pavers from the playground area through 150 linear feet of school hallways into the courtyard.

Did I say simple? Yes. Setting the goal was simple, but the execution of this daunting task was nothing short of shear mastery by the volunteers using muscle and stamina.

Do you realize that our volunteers moved over 82, 800 POUNDS or 41 TONS of concrete pavers! Thats the equivalent of carrying 8 full grown elephants half the length of a football field!

Other materials that had to moved from the playground into the courtyard were:

- 108,000 pounds (54 Tons) of crushed stone base.

- 36,000 Pounds (18 Tons) of stone setting bed.

- 4,000 Pounds (2 Tons) of Boulders (for the pond)

- Wood Pallets, Asphalt and a slew of miscellaneous construction debris.

This does not include the excavation and close to 3 Tons of the ever dreaded CRUSHED RED STONE removed from the courtyard...

Did we acomplish that goal? Simple answer. YES. And then some

As the day proceeded, volunteers took turns in shifts helping out wherever they could. We applaud and thank you.

We did over hear that there was some bet that the large gravel pile would still be there Monday afternoon...well, the Team prevailed.

Here are some photos of the coutryard at 7AM this morning before the team of volunteers arrived.

Check out the PM and End of Day Sunday post. The accomplishment is quite impressive.
